Jennifer Aniston makes a return to the silver screen this Friday in the hilarious comedy, Office Christmas Party. However, many critics seem to think that, just like most office holiday gatherings, the film falls short of expectations. One particularly harsh review came from esteemed Rolling Stone critic, Peter Travers, who bluntly stated, ‘This holiday raunchy-comedy is a disappointing lump of coal in your Christmas stocking.’
In Rolling Stone’s review of Jennifer Aniston’s latest movie, Office Christmas Party, Peter Travers did not hold back, referring to it as a “Lump of Coal in Your Stocking.” The 47-year-old actress was recently seen at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, which reunites her with former co-star Justin Bateman from The Switch. RottenTomatoes.com gave the movie a disappointing rating of only 44 percent on the Tomatometer, with Calvin Wilson from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch calling it a “dud.” The Hollywood Reporter criticized the work of writers and directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon, labeling it as “a frenzied mishmash of strained comedy.” TheWrap.com went even further, branding the film as a “brain-dead and stale comedy,” and adding that Hollywood’s yearly tradition of putting out embarrassing movies in December continues with Office Christmas Party.
Having a hard time keeping the audience entertained, this comedy only scores a disappointing 44 percent on RottenTomatoes.com. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as ‘a chaotic mix of forced humor’.
Reindeer might not be part of the cast, but according to TheWrap.com, Hollywood continues its yearly tradition of making a fool of itself in December. Variety comments on the tangled storyline, saying it interferes with the humor, comparing it to a “Hangover” film where the characters stumble upon a cure for cancer. Office Christmas Party, featuring Olivia Munn, T.J. Miller, and Jillian Bell, hits theaters this Friday.
Jennifer Aniston’s recent films have struggled to perform well at the box office. From the flop of Mother’s Day in April to the disappointment of Horrible Bosses 2 in 2014, her track record has been rocky. The last major success she had was back in 2013 with We’re The Millers, as reported by BoxOfficeMojo.com.
Having a jolly good time: Office Christmas Party reunites Aniston and her The Switch co-star Jason Bateman for a hilarious adventure. Despite not having a major hit since We’re The Millers in 2013, the former Friends star still knows how to bring the laughs.
